Description: |
The Igneous Necklace is a bold and structural beading
project that combines architectural form with fiery,
volcanic color play. At the heart of the design is a
dramatic German glass cabochon, captured securely within a
peyote-stitched bezel with a dimensional frame-like
structure around the glowing centerpiece. Students will
explore the interplay of structure and embellishment through
a variety of beadweaving techniques. The bezel construction
uses peyote stitch to lock the cabochon into place, while
strategic increases form the square frame. The neckstrap
features tubular herringbone stitch with color gradation,
accented by sections of geometric, netted beaded components
that provide both visual interest and stability. Crystal
and metallic bead embellishments punctuate the design,
adding sparkle and contrast to the matte seed bead
foundation. By the end of the class, students will have
mastered techniques that fuse artistry with engineering,
leaving them with the skills to complete a necklace that
feels both elemental and refined--like crystallized fire
captured in beadwork.
